Do all religions worship the same God?

This is a common question, and a vital one to know. Often times we do not understand the true differences in religions, and make the mistake of thinking that all religions worship the same God. Below I'll describe different religions and their views and customs.
  • Christianity- In Christianity you believe that God sent his only son, Jesus, to die on the cross to forgive of us our sins, that he rose three days later, and that he will come again. They believe the Bible is the Holy book, and that you can have a personal relationship with God in life. Also that not deeds, but having a relationship with God and believing that Jesus Christ died on the cross to forgive you of your sins gets you into heaven.
  • Buddhism- In Buddhism you worship no gods. You try to purify your heart, and live peacefully with everything so that one day you can reach a place called Nirvana. This religion has self-disipline, prayer, and meditation involved.
  • Islam- Muslims believe in one god, Allah, which means the one almighty. Their daily duties are to 1. Repeat a creed about Allah and Muhammad; 2. Recite certain prayers in Arabic five times a day; 3. Give to the needy; 4. One month each year, fast from food, drink, sex and smoking from sunrise to sunset; 5. Pilgrimage once in one's lifetime to worship at a shrine in Mecca. You get to a paradise if you have good deeds on earth, but have no relationship with him.
  • Hinduism - When Hindu, you believe that your present life was based upon how you acted in your previous life. If you experience hardships it was because of the way you acted in your past life. They believe in thousands of gods and goddess', and the ultimate one as Brahman, There is a God for mainly everything in life, and that you should pray to each of them for different occurances. They also have dancing and festivals for many occassions.
As you can see, many other religions in the world do not have a personal relationship with God, but practice on deeds and efforts. God welcomes all to come to him, because he loves us all equally and is always there for us. Therefore we DO NOT worship the same God. There is one God, and he desires to have a relationship with us. He knows we mess up, but he also knows that we can be forgiven. God wants to have a personal relationship with you more than anything, and when you do have a relationship with him you desire to devote your life to him in many ways. I'm not saying you will want to be a preacher, pope, or missionary, but some worldly attributes others look at as harmless you can see the danger and deception of.

One reason I bring this topic up is to encourage Christians to go out into the world, and to not fear, but to tell others about God. Many people have been mislead about christianity, having a relationship with God, and getting into heaven. If you truly love your friends and family let them know! You want them to be saved and live a life that is pleasing to God, and that they will be happy with. There is a definite happiness when you are close with God, and it's an experience that all should feel. Trust in the Lord and don't lean unto your own understanding.

"Do not let this Book of the Law depart from your mouth; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful. Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be terrified; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go."
Joshua 1:8-9

Wow, Lauren I learned a lot from this, haha i didn't know what all these other religions worshiped and stuff, but im looking foward to more of your post, because the fact that i believe your going to have some good advice to help me when i feel down. Im always going a little out of line sometimes and i pray to get myself back on track, but then theres days where i am too scared to pray because i feel as though God will get tired of hearing from me. But then i always remember my mom saying If we forgive others god forgives us 77*77 times, or something like that. Is there any good scripture you know of that can give me a little help in that area?

Yeah, I'd love to help you out with any scripture or problems your having in that area! =)

God wants you to ask him to take away all your sadness, anger, temptation and what not... he doesn't get angry.

Some good vereses for that case would be...

If you forgive those who sin against you, your heavenly Father will forgive you. But if you refuse to forgive others, your Father will not forgive your sins.
Matthew 6:14-15

"Cast your burden on the Lord, and He shall sustain you; He shall never permit the righteous to be moved."
Psalm 55:22

All you who fear the Lord, trust the Lord!
He is your helper and your shield.
Psalm 115:11

Though a mighty army surrounds me,
my heart will not be afraid.
Even if I am attacked,
I will remain confident.
Psalm 27:3
